Located at the northern entry of the “Vallée Noire (Black valley) a country full of history and traditions, cherished by the celebrated novelist George Sand, site of the novels “La mare au diable” (the Pond of the Devil), and “François le Champi”, Mers-sur-Indre at equal distance from Châteauroux and La Châtre, and is a peaceful village where the life is good .
 
 Mers-sur-Indre has 584 inhabitants. 71% of the population is less than 60 years old and 23 % is less than 19 years old. Open to Europe, Mers-sur-Indre has among its permanent residents English, Dutch and Flemish.
 
 Many associations animate the village, which has places favourable for the family and collective festivities. The village hall (named "le Domaine") is able to accommodate 200 people and  is very appreciated. Near it a "gîte" (12 places) and the camp-site (2 stars), 15 places.
